Postpartum Pelvic Floor Therapy in San Diego
Your body did something incredible. Let's help it recover.
Having a baby changes your body, and not just in the ways people talk about. Leaking when you pick up your toddler. A core that doesn't feel like yours anymore. Pain around your C-section scar months after surgery. A feeling that something "isn't right" down there but nobody seems to take it seriously.
If any of that sounds familiar, you're not alone. And it's treatable.
I'm Dr. Ashlee Gendron, and I specialize in helping women recover after birth, whether you're 6 weeks postpartum or 6 years. There's no window that closes on getting help.
Postpartum Conditions
After pregnancy and birth, your body needs more than "just do kegels." Here's what I work with every day:
Diastasis Recti (Abdominal Separation)
That gap down the middle of your abs after pregnancy. I assess how wide and deep the separation is, then build a progressive core strengthening program to restore function, not just close the gap.
C-Section Scar Pain and Tightness
Scar tissue can pull, restrict, and cause pain months or even years after surgery. I use hands-on scar mobilization to help your tissue heal and move properly again.
Leaking (Stress Incontinence)
Peeing when you sneeze, cough, jump, or run. This is common after birth, but it's not something you have to accept as your new normal.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse
A feeling of heaviness, pressure, or like something is falling out. Prolapse is more common than most women realize, and pelvic floor therapy is the first-line treatment.
Return to Exercise
You want to get back to running, lifting, or CrossFit but your body doesn't feel ready. I help you bridge that gap safely so you can get back to what you love without setbacks.
Pain During Sex
Postpartum pain with intercourse is something a lot of women deal with silently. It doesn't have to be that way.
When to Start
Best window: 2 to 4 weeks postpartum. You can start gentle exercises on your own from day 1, but the soonest I recommend coming in is around 4 weeks, as long as you're not still bleeding. If you are, wait for your OB's 6-week clearance. That's when we can do internal work.
Most common mistake patients make: waiting too long. The pattern of compensation a body learns in those first months gets harder to unwind later.
If you're years postpartum and thought it was too late, it's not. The work shifts. Healing is done by then, but the body has years of compensations and stuck patterns. We focus on resetting those patterns, calming the nervous system, and retraining how your body moves. It still works, it just takes a different approach.

I typically see patients starting around 6 weeks postpartum, but every situation is different. If you had complications or a C-section, we'll work around your recovery timeline. And if you're months or years postpartum, it's never too late. Your body can still respond to treatment.
An internal exam gives me the most complete picture of your pelvic floor, but it's always your choice. I'll explain what I'm looking for and why, and we only proceed if you're comfortable. I can still help you without one.
Absolutely. I regularly work with women who are 5, 10, even 15 years postpartum. Pelvic floor muscles respond to targeted training at any stage. It's never too late.
Kegels are one small piece of the puzzle, and for some women, kegels actually make things worse (especially if your pelvic floor is already too tight). I assess your whole body: core, hips, breathing, pelvic floor, to figure out what you actually need. It's not just kegels.
